Is to establish is ~£[] too much for headphones, or are you really getting what you’ve paid for. i will not be comparing these headphones to anything else as i havent tested any relavent phones but with the amount of confusing reviews i guarantee you’ll have come across phrases like “product x has more bass” or “not as big a soundscape as product Y” i couldnt find any review telling me if and when i put the money in, was i going to be disapointed, so here it is, i’ve written one.

    Price purchased £[]
    Time owned 1week

Ultimate Ears is now owned by logitech, and the box is destinctly logitech, glued shut at base and at top, opening’s a little messy.
inside, you get the phones, 3 sets of silicone earphones, and two sets of foam tips and a little carry case (one of the sets of foam tips is in the case) you also get a little aeroplane adapter, havent deremined which planes this is meant for, but it’s a nice thought.

    Looks and First impressions_
Having ordered from the internet, i had no idea just how tiny these phones are, but to give you a comparison, if you take a bic pen, then these are just a shade smaller in diameter, they’re a gun metal metalic grey, and the finish is superb, and the cable is thin, but not too delicate, it’s long enough to sit deep into my jeans pocket and still reach my ears with just enough flex to allow movement, but not give too much slack (i’m 6′2″) out of the box, i plugged it into my nokia xm, just with the silicon tips attatched, and the sound was horrid, the phones couln’t handle the bass, the fit was fine, if a little uncomfortable, but secure. i wasnt’ pushing the bass, even nickleback just sounded fake and uncomfortable, so initially i was thinking, perhaps i’ve got a dud set, maybe i’m going to have to return them. . . but first, i thought, let them burn in, give them a week, then decide.

    After Burn-In_
i left the phones on a static signal for 36hours, and swapped the silicone tips for the foam one’s to check out the new sound, and they are just completely different beasts of burden. from acoustic to dubstep, rock to even watching films, the phones can handle everything thrown at them, checking online, i found that bringing the cable up the back of your ears, over the top, and into the canal brings better clarity, well i cant say i’ve noticed, but the comfort is superb, i’ve been to sleep with them in!

    Conclusion_
if you like dance music, and really appreciate your bass, you wont be blown away by these, they handle bass superbly, tracks like the streets – blinded by the lights (nero mix) are just butter and bread to the UE700’s but that doesnt mean the kick will completely wet your mouth. the sound on these tracks is stunning, the phones follow the bass all the way down without ever comprimisting the mids and highs, and you will go deaf listening to them at volume. but just the kick isn’t there, the wow factor.

but i simply cant take a star off for that, because they handle everything thrown at them no matter how deep, dirty, phatt, or just delicate, they’re never out of their depth.

is it worth £[], yes, it is. . . but in terms of bang for your buck dance addicts, i’ve heard great things about jays. for that deep down wow. . .

Excellent earphones. small but powerful. As good as the UE 5 Pro’s but much more discreet.

This is the third pair of IEMs (in ear monitors) that I have owned. The other two pairs I have had were; Beats by Dr Dre Tour and q-JAYS. The Beats were good, but the build quality was appalling. The q-JAYS just didn’t have enough depth in the lows for my tastes.

These IEMs look good, they fit well, but most importantly they sound fantastic. Before I talk about the sound, I will briefly discuss the fit.

The UE700s are supplied with 4 sets of silicone tips (1 x small, 2 x medium, 1 x large) and 2 pairs of Comply foam tips. The silicone tips are great. They are slightly thicker and more robust than other silicone tips I have come across, which helps to get a good seal. The Comply tips are, in my opinion, the best of the bunch. They really make a difference to the lows. You can buy spares from Amazon Marketplace.

Sound-wise, these headphones really impress. Highs are detailed, crisp and crystal clear. Ultimate Ears are very highly regarded fr their high frequency range. Mids are well defined, but perhaps not as well defined as the q-JAYS. Lows. . . bass is not as loud as the q-JAYS, but it is definitely deeper. If you want power, you should probably go for the q-JAYS. The UE700s are much lower, but the q-JAYS smack you in the face harder! It comes down to personal preference and, to some extent, your taste in music.

Oh, and the UE700s really benefit from a bit of “burn-in” time. They will sound a lot better after between 30 and 40 hours of use.
